Briane Nasimok (Director)
Briane Nasimok has had a typical career in Canadian arts. A trip to the then O’Keefe Centre, at age eight, became his inspiration to focus on not only acting but trying to perform on that very stage. As fate would have it, after his public-school performing career, playing A Boy, A Pirate, A Townsfolk, Policeman Number Two and The Wing Commander, he was discovered at the University of Toronto. Briane was finally cast to appear on the O’Keefe Centre Stage, as part of the Canadian Opera Company, in silent roles, leading to a career as Canada’s Foremost Operatic Mute. And after that – stand-up at Yuk Yuks; improvising with Theatresports, writing for the Canadian Magazine and co-authoring the humorous guide to the city, Making Out in Toronto; television writing including Fred Penner’s Place, The Genies, The Geminis, In Good Company, and Sesame Park. And a decade writing and producing at YTV – everything from NBA Dunk Street to nanalan’. Add a good helping of non-acting roles in theatre. Briane spent ten summers creating interactive theatre in Prince Edward Island and Halifax. At the Charlottetown Festival, he co-wrote and co-directed Dead Air and last summer directed Michael Posner’s Fringe hit Dead End.
Briane will be taking his latest one person show Recovering Romantic to the Halifax Fringe Festival in September and returning to his storytelling career in the fall, including his monthly show at the Rivoli, But That’s Another Story.
